Italian company Meteor Viaggi Camper, which rents and sells used camper vans, has published advice for people taking their first camper trip. For a first experience it recommends a short route with a destination two to three hours away, so the driver can get used to the vehicle. Before departure, owners should check water levels and battery charge, the fridge, heating and gas system, and secure doors, drawers and windows. In Italy a category B licence generally allows driving a motorhome with a maximum authorised mass of up to 3,500 kg, unless specific exceptions apply. Under Article 185 of the Italian Highway Code, parking a motorhome does not count as camping if the vehicle rests on the ground only on its wheels, produces no discharges and occupies no more space than its own footprint.
