Sweden has seen a sharp rise in demand for motorhomes, leading to a shortage of campsite and parking spaces during peak season. In the first half of 2026, 3,527 new motorhomes were registered in the country — 55% more than in the same period of 2025. Over two years, new registrations have more than doubled.
A campsite owner in Kristinehamn reports that up to 50 motorhomes a day are turned away due to lack of space. Authorities remind that overnighting in a motorhome is only allowed at designated sites, not in nature, and that standard rules apply at regular parking lots.
Similar growth in motorhome popularity is seen in Norway, Spain, the Czech Republic and other European countries.
