In 2025, the number of overnight stays at campsites in Germany reached 44.7 million, an increase of 4.2% compared to the previous year. This is the fourth consecutive record year. In Lower Saxony, including the North Sea coast, more than 6.3 million overnight stays were recorded, up 5.5%. Demand is driven by lower prices compared to hotels and foreign destinations: a family of three pays on average 43 euros per night versus 77 euros in Croatia.
Recommendations for summer 2026
A list of 10 campsites on the North Sea coast between Wilhelmshaven and Stade has been published. The recommendations cover sites with different conditions: by the water, in greenery, for families with children, and for motorhome travel. The selection includes, among others, Nordsee-Camping am Jadebusen, Strandcampingplatz Dangast, Knaus Campingpark Eckwarderhörne, and Campingplatz Finck in Cuxhaven.
