The water system in a motorhome or caravan must be fully drained before winter, as residual water in taps, hoses and tanks can freeze and cause damage. ProMobil describes a routine that prepares the water system for frost and hygiene in about 20 minutes. If no compressor is available, an inflated balloon is placed over the tap outlet and squeezed to push remaining water out of the fitting and pipes. Siphons, filters and check valves should also be opened and drained. TÜV Nord additionally recommends closing gas cylinders, disconnecting them from the hose and checking connections for leaks.
