French motorhome traveler fined for Italian toll road passage 6 years later

Italy's ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) zones pose a significant financial risk for campervan travelers. According to a Reddit user, one couple accumulated over €1,150 in fines within days. Each camera pass in a ZTL can result in a separate fine ranging from €80 to €335. The sign 'Varco Attivo' indicates active cameras and a ban on entry, while fines may be notified up to 360 days later.

The man, who holds a valid firearms license and has no prior criminal record, was released pending trial on charges of aggravated threats with a firearm.
