Andorra introduces €600 fine for overnight stays in motorhomes and caravans outside permitted areas

The Government of Andorra has issued a decree temporarily suspending the ban on overnight stays in motorhomes, caravans, campers and camper vans for the La Purito Andorra cycling event and a stage of La Vuelta a España. The exception applies from July 31 to August 2 (La Purito) and on August 24–25 (La Vuelta stage), except in Sant Julià de Lòria during the latter. The measure aims to accommodate the influx of visitors traveling in such vehicles.

Residents of Sornàs who own paid parking and overnight spaces for motorhomes (annual fee of 250 euros) report that the lot is constantly occupied by tourists who do not pay and exceed time limits, leaving no room for paying users. Complaints to the police have not resolved the issue. A new regulation banning overnight stays outside designated areas (fines up to 600 euros) is considered ineffective due to a chronic lack of legal alternatives.

The measure, adopted by the Ministry of Tourism and Trade after a 2025 transition period, aims to free up public parking and enforce tourist tax collection. The country offers 350 authorized overnight spots, including campsites and designated zones, but users report insufficient infrastructure and warn of a potential drop in visitor numbers.

One project is a parking area at the foot of the Ordino Arcalís station, intended for rest and overnight stays. Existing zones allow parking from 48 hours to seven consecutive days, with annual passes for residents at around 200 euros.
