In 2017, a doctor at the nursing home where 101-year-old Dominique lived said she had one week to live. Her granddaughter Fiona Lauriol, with her parents' consent, decided not to leave her grandmother alone and set off on a camper trip across Europe. Dominique, who was incontinent and used a wheelchair, accepted. The journey lasted until her death in 2020 at the age of 103. The family continues the trips to raise awareness about the isolation of the elderly: about 600 conferences, meetings with 100 MPs, an invitation to the National Assembly, a meeting with François Hollande. The family's caravan has over 60,000 followers online.
