Motorhome market in Russia
According to market participants, Russia has about 30–32 thousand owners of motorhomes, campers and residential trailers. There are no precise official statistics, as some vehicles are converted from serial production cars.
Driving licence categories
Driving a motorhome requires a licence category depending on the permissible maximum weight: up to 3.5 tonnes, category B is sufficient; up to 7.5 tonnes, C1; above that, C. For residential trailers, BE is required if limits are exceeded. When converting a serial car, the data must be entered in the registration documents.
Choosing a motorhome
When choosing a motorhome, the permissible maximum weight and licence category are key: for a trailer up to 750 kg, category B is sufficient; for a heavier one, BE may be required; a motorhome up to 3500 kg can be driven with category B, above 3.5 t with C1 or C. It is also necessary to check the legal status of a converted van and the payload reserve.
