Seven highest-altitude campsites in the Alps: from 1560 to 1981 meters

On June 27, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00, the popular toll-free Fernpass route (B179) in Tyrol will be completely closed due to registered demonstrations. The Brenner motorway will also be fully closed on the same day. The closure coincides with the start of summer holidays in several German states, causing massive traffic jams. Motorhome drivers are advised to use toll motorways A14 or A12 as detours, while the Zirler Berg route (B177) is banned for trailers and heavy motorhomes due to a 16% gradient.

On May 16, 2026, a free weighing event for motorhomes and caravans will take place at the Nüziders traffic control point (A14, towards Innsbruck). The campaign is organized by the traffic police together with ÖAMTC and ASFINAG. Overloading often goes unnoticed but affects vehicle stability and braking distance. Overweight vehicles will not be penalized during the event, with focus on prevention.
