Hesse has been named the second most affordable camping region in Germany, according to an analysis by ADAC and PiNCAMP for 2026. A family of three pays an average of €37 per night during the high season, which is €5 below the national average of €42.

Prices in Hesse rose by only 2% compared to the previous year, while the average increase across Germany was 7%. In Europe, Germany remains one of the most affordable countries for camping, with an average price of €41 per night. For comparison, Croatia averages €73 and Italy €63.

Motorhomes in Danger: Major Fire Department Operation in Irsingen

A fire alarm in Irsingen on Wednesday evening triggered a large-scale response from multiple fire departments. Smoke was detected from a barn on the southern edge of Irsingen, where motorhomes were stored. During a border check in Freilassing, police stopped a camper van with an unusual load. Inside were 12 guinea pigs, 8 boxes of bumblebees, and 3 boxes of insects (spider mites, aphids, predatory mites, parasitic wasps, and gall midges). The driver lacked import certificates required under the internal market animal health regulations. The guinea pigs were taken to a shelter, and the driver faces a fine.
