A retired couple, Ana and Fernando, shared their life in a used Fiat Ducatoⓘ Maxi motorhome, which they bought for less than 10,000 euros. Ana, a Venezuelan who has lived in Spain for 20 years, and Fernando, of Argentine origin, have been living in the motorhome for three years. They spoke about their lifestyle in a video on Arnau Serrado's YouTube channel.
Fernando fitted the interior with wood himself to reduce weight and costs. The couple prefers their used vehicle to newer models because of their weight. "The main problem is weight. We reduced it to lighten it, but that also means a lower quality of life," they say.
According to the couple, living in a motorhome allows them to save money: even without tracking expenses, they manage to put money aside. They spend money in local communities, for example on food and gas, and claim that over a weekend a group of campers can spend more than 7,000 euros in a village. The motorhome is 27 years old, and the DIY renovation cost 1,631 euros. The move cut their expenses: they no longer pay for water, electricity, or other utilities, and their modest pension now covers their needs.
