A Spanish couple, Fernando and Ana, sold their traditional home and have lived for over three years in a 1997 Fiat Ducatoⓘ Maxi motorhome named 'La Vaca'. They were tired of paying household bills and wanted to reduce fixed expenses on their modest pension.
They set up the vehicle themselves, spending 1631 euros on materials, far less than professional services. The couple says they now have money left at the end of the month and can travel around the country, adapting routes to their budget. Fuel costs vary depending on how much they travel. They also do repairs themselves, saving 1631 euros on painting. They note that after the move, they no longer run out of money by mid-month and are able to save.
The couple warns about a flaw in modern motorhomes: they say older models are sturdier than new ones, which manufacturers lighten to comply with weight limits for category B driving licenses. Their motorhome has furniture made of real wood, unlike the thinner materials in newer models. They also calculated that a weekend of motorhome parking can bring a village more than 8040 dollars.
