Emmanuel and Frédérique, who bought a camper van for €60,000, encountered parking restrictions during a trip to Brittany in October 2026. In Quiberon their vehicle, about two metres high, could not pass height barriers of 1.90 m and 1.80 m, so the family stayed at a municipal campsite costing €21 per night. Under Article R417-12 of the Highway Code, sleeping in a legally parked vehicle is not an offence, but using the van as a campsite with outdoor equipment is regulated by Articles R111-32 to R111-34 of the Urban Planning Code. Local councils may impose additional parking and traffic restrictions. The report aired on 15 October 2026 in the programme Envoyé spécial on France Télévisions.
