John and his wife from Ireland sold their house in County Donegal and set off in a motorhome without a final destination. Two days after seeing a listing for an old palazzo in the village of Alvito in the Comino valley in southern Italy, they arrived and decided to settle there. According to John, taxes in Italy are much higher than in Ireland, wages are low and finding work as a foreigner is almost impossible. The couple earn a living by writing, photography, film-making and renting out an apartment in the building. Their integration was helped by the fact that many Italian emigrants in Ireland come from the region.
