Motorhome discrimination in Spain?
Spanish TV presenter and journalist David Cantero, who has traveled by motorhome for more than 20 years, has spoken out against what he calls "motorhome racism" (autocaravan racism). In social media posts, he complained that municipalities are increasingly restricting parking and overnight stays for camper vans, creating obstacles for tourists. According to the DGT (Spain's traffic authority), the country lacks about 2,000 dedicated motorhome parking areas. By contrast, France has such facilities in almost every tourist town. Data from the Interior Ministry shows the number of motorhomes in Spain has nearly tripled from 48,000 in 2015 to 137,000. Cantero urged authorities to stop hindering travelers and instead invest in proper infrastructure, noting that most municipalities do not set up motorhome parks despite potential revenue.
