Camping at winemakers gains popularity in Palatinate

The Saarburg-Kell association of municipalities signed a cooperation agreement with Camping-Car Park on June 9, 2026, to operate the 'Hochwald' campsite. The site closed at the end of 2025 for renovations and will reopen as a dedicated motorhome parking area. The operator will invest around €100,000 to set up 30 motorhome pitches and integrate the site into its European booking network with over one million users. The reopening is planned for summer 2026.

A car and a motorhome collided on the A20 near Dummerstorf on Friday afternoon. The 66-year-old car driver failed to yield. Both drivers were hospitalized, one with serious injuries. Damage estimated at €50,000.

A 68-year-old e-bike rider died in hospital two days after being hit by a motorhome. Police are investigating whether the 85-year-old driver was under the influence of medication.
