Motorhomes Occupy Gijón in Protest Against New Height Restrictions

Spain's Civil Guard has released a 40-second video clarifying regulations for caravans, motorhomes, and campers ahead of Holy Week. The video briefly outlines key requirements: speed limits, mandatory vehicle inspections, passenger transport rules, and hitch specifications.

Rising fuel prices are forcing tourists to reconsider motorhome and caravan travel plans. Camper owners report that fuel costs have doubled compared to when diesel was 1.30 euros. Campgrounds are seeing increased booking cancellations, with some tourists canceling even summer trips.

Approximately 500 motorhome owners held a protest in Gijón against the city council's plans to install height controls in three major parking areas. Participants, including national and international ones, demand regulation instead of bans, opposing the upcoming summer parking restrictions.

A comprehensive motorhome inspection is required before the season starts after winter storage. Key steps include washing and inspecting the body for corrosion, checking water and electrical systems, monitoring tire pressure and condition, and testing gas equipment and brakes. For trailers, the coupling device and load distribution require additional verification.

Spain's General Directorate of Traffic has updated regulations for motorhome use ahead of Holy Week. Key changes include different technical inspection frequencies for motorhomes and camper vans, clarification of parking rules based on a Supreme Court ruling, and introduction of new road sign S-128 indicating wastewater disposal points.

The Asturias Motorhome Club organized a protest against the installation of height barriers in Gijón's parking lots. Participants stated they pay taxes and spend money in the city, and their parking rights are equal to those of regular cars according to an Interior Ministry instruction.
