In France, police cannot evict illegally parked caravans on their own initiative. Eviction requires an administrative procedure initiated by the mayor and decided by the prefect. If the municipality does not comply with the departmental caravan accommodation scheme, a court order is required, extending the timeline. A reform bill was examined in the National Assembly in 2025 that could change these rules.
