French law distinguishes three situations for caravan placement: on official reception areas, on private land with owner consent, and unauthorized occupation. If the municipality has not fulfilled its obligations to provide reception areas, it loses the ability to demand eviction. A neighbor can report to the town hall and gendarmerie, but the eviction procedure is complex and lengthy. A bill passed by the Senate on February 10, 2026, proposes doubling the fine for illegal installation from €500 to €1,000.
