Taxes 2026: do you have to declare income if you rent out your motorhome between individuals?

French company Daan Tech has introduced the BOB Mini compact dishwasher designed for caravans, tiny houses, boats, and small kitchens. The device, measuring 34 cm wide and weighing about 10 kg, features a built-in 3.9-liter tank, allowing it to operate without a direct water connection. It uses 2.9 liters of water per wash, which the manufacturer claims is up to 80% less than hand washing. The unit has a power rating of 1000 W, consumes about 0.43 kWh per standard cycle, and 0.5 W in standby. A quick program takes about 20 minutes, and noise levels are around 43 dB.

In 2025, the total number of registered vehicle thefts in France fell by 9%, but vehicle tracking company Coyote Secure reports a 30% year-on-year increase in thefts of vans and campers, attributing this to their high value, often between €60,000 and €120,000. In the Netherlands, insurer NKC imposes stricter security requirements for campers valued at €75,000 and above, requiring an approved alarm system with window etching or a gearbox/steering lock in addition to an immobilizer. It is crucial that the required system is installed and activated; otherwise, theft coverage may be denied.

At the 'Au Bout du pont' campsite in Gouarec (Côtes-d'Armor), on a three-hectare peninsula between the Nantes-Brest canal and the Doré river, guests are accommodated in 14 vintage caravans converted into themed rooms. Owners Eva Durand and Jordan Robineau opened the site two years ago.

Influencer Juanma Lopez, who lives in a converted van, shared his actual monthly expenses, which exceed 1,000 euros, contradicting the assumption that van life is cheap. His main costs include fuel (about 400 euros), food (around 500 euros), Starlink internet (90 euros), and campsites, laundromats, and gyms (80 euros). He has no electricity or water bills.

In Hendaye, on the French Basque coast, the schoolyard of the Saint-Vincent school has been used as a paid motorhome parking area since mid-July. Six spaces at 12 euros per 24 hours are almost always occupied. The project, developed by Camping-Car Park, returns 50% of revenue to the school, estimated at 4,000–5,000 euros in 2026. Some local residents have expressed concerns about the visual impact.

In the Grand Est region, several events are planned for September 2026 for motorhome travelers. In Rethel, from September 4 to 6, a beer festival will feature over 60 draft beers. In Charleville-Mézières, from September 16 to 20, the Temps d’M festival will present hundreds of performances in various venues. At Lake Madine, from September 11 to 13, the Roof Top Tent festival will offer equipment testing and demonstrations; a day pass costs €5. In Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, from September 16 to 18, a gourmet underground picnic in a silver mine will be held for €85. From September 17 to 20, the 31st European Patchwork Meeting will take place in Val d'Argent, with a one-day pass at €18.
