In Spain, sleeping in a camper van or motorhome by the beach is legal if it does not constitute camping. According to DGT rules, sleeping inside a parked vehicle is allowed, but deploying an awning or placing chairs outside turns it into camping, which is prohibited. Local authorities may impose their own restrictions, such as in Piélagos (Cantabria) where overnight stays are banned, or in Llanes (Asturias) where they are only allowed in a designated area with a 48-hour limit. The Coastal Law also prohibits overnight stays in the maritime-terrestrial public domain.
