Somerset Council has been ordered to pay the legal costs of the owners of Cornish Farm Touring Park in Taunton after government inspectors ruled its behaviour "unreasonable". In June 2025, the council refused planning permission for the site's use as a caravan park, prompting an appeal and a public inquiry.
Inspector Roy Curnow ruled against the council, stating it acted unreasonably, causing unnecessary expense, and dismissed its arguments about limiting stay durations and changes to the site's character. He also noted there were no restrictions on using caravans for residential purposes. The inspector described the council's arguments about limiting the length of stay as "fundamentally flawed". The exact amount of costs has not been disclosed.
