A planning inspector has dismissed an appeal by John and Gill Jackson, requiring them to remove two caravans from land at Saltcoats, Holmrook. The Lake District National Park Authority issued an enforcement notice alleging the land had been changed from agricultural to mixed agricultural and residential use without permission. The appellants cited a 1961 licence and a 1970 appeal decision allowing the land as a caravan site, but inspector Zoë Franks ruled that subsequent agricultural use had extinguished the original permission. One caravan was used as accommodation for a shepherd during lambing, the other for full-time residential occupation by a family with a child. The compliance period was extended from three to six months.
