In Brief

Authorities in Seongsan-gu, Changwon (South Korea) are accelerating the creation of a dedicated parking lot for RVs and caravans. The move follows long-term occupation of public parking spaces, causing shortages and conflicts with local residents.

Seongsan-gu district in Changwon has begun developing a specialized parking lot for RVs and caravans. On April 29, 2026, officials inspected potential sites, including the area near Machhan Bridge and Samgwi Beach. Earlier, on February 23, they had already surveyed vacant government land for a lot designed for large vehicles.

Reason

The issue stems from RV owners occupying public parking spaces for extended periods. At the free lot near Central Sports Park, campers have been taking up spaces for a long time, leading to parking shortages and resident complaints. Under a parking law effective July 2024, authorities CAN order the relocation and towing of vehicles left long-term on public lots.

Plans

The optimal site is expected to be selected by the end of April 2026, with construction starting in the second half of 2026. The dedicated lot is expected to reduce conflicts between residents and tourists and improve the urban environment.
