Switzerland has over 400 campsites. A ranking of the top 10 was compiled based on Google reviews. In 2025, overnight stays increased by 8.2% to 5.2 million, with the majority in Ticino (1.04 million). The top spots are mostly small campsites with ratings from 4.79 to 4.88 stars. The leader is Ferienhof Rüti (4.88) in Schwyz, which has no tent pitches but offers spaces for motorhomes and vans.

On the A23 near Müllheim (Thurgau), a motorhome collided with a semi-trailer truck, crashed through the barrier, and overturned. The 50-year-old driver and his 74-year-old passenger were injured; the truck driver was unharmed. Damage is estimated at several hundred thousand francs.

On the evening of June 18 in Hasle (Lucerne), a van towing a caravan caught fire. The caravan was detached before the flames could spread, remaining undamaged. The van was completely burned out; no injuries were reported. The fire was caused by a technical defect.

On the A3 near Filzbach (canton of Glarus), a 64-year-old female driver crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a motorhome. No injuries were reported; police confiscated her license and ordered blood and urine tests.

In a referendum, 53% of Winterthur residents voted against renovating the Schützenweiher campsite. The city council sees no legal path to allow permanent camping there. In response, the Alternative List (AL) party, together with campsite residents, launched an initiative demanding a new camping project with at least one-third of the area designated for alternative housing.

On the A13/N13 highway in Mesocco (Graubünden), an 87-year-old woman crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with two vehicles, including a camper van. The driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
