Bulgaria shows one of the highest growth rates for camping tourism in the EU. According to Eurostat data for 2025, overnight stays in the country's campsites increased by 8.4% to 153,700, significantly exceeding the EU average growth of 1.1%.

In 2025, overnight stays in campsites and caravan parks in the EU reached 413 million, accounting for 13.4% of all tourist overnight stays. France leads with 154 million overnight stays, followed by Spain, Italy, and Germany. Bulgaria recorded an 8.4% growth, significantly above the EU average (1.1%), ranking sixth in growth rate.

Bulgarian authorities have begun inspections and are issuing fines for the illegal placement of caravans and campers on coastal dunes. Fines range from 100 to 5000 leva. The inspections are taking place on the southern Black Sea coast, where tourists often set up camp without permission in protected natural areas.
