Demand for motorhomes in Germany remains high

At the Caravan-Salon in Düsseldorf, new flagship motorhomes were presented. Among them are the Kabe Imperial Traq 830 (from €260,000), the Eura Xtura 656 (from €183,000), and the Laika Kreos 8.08. Also shown was the Dethleffs A6823-2 with a gross weight of 5.5 tonnes.

At the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2026, the AUTO BILD editorial team selected four of the most interesting exhibits. Among them are the Westfalia Columbus Liner camper with a roof terrace, the Nomade Nation Space prototype with a rotating mirror-screen, the Rocket Camper Bike camper with an XXL garage for bicycles, and the world's first fully integrated motorhome with all-wheel drive, the KABE Traq based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The price of the Rocket Camper Bike starts at 87,000 euros.

At the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, new flagship models based on the Mercedes Sprinter are being presented. Demand for this vehicle remains high despite price increases. Among the novelties are the first all-wheel-drive integrated motorhome Kabe Imperial Ri830 Traq 4x4 with Torque-on-Demand system, as well as the Eura Xtura 656 HB with a roof tent, Laika Kreos H5109 MB, Dethleffs Graneo A6823-2, and Atlantis Carbon 4x4 with a carbon monocoque. Prices range from 170,000 to 260,000 euros.

Volkswagen unveiled the ID. California Cruise concept, a fully electric camper based on the ID. Buzz, with an official debut scheduled for Caravan Salon 2026. Instead of heavy permanent furniture, the camper uses inflatable modules developed with Stuff Bubble: a kitchen weighing under 10 kg and a bed (6 kg single, 12 kg double) that can be installed or removed by one person in minutes. Range is expected to reach about 480 km (79 or 86 kWh batteries). Production version is planned by 2028.

The Altmark region north of Magdeburg is home to eight of Germany's 25 Hanseatic towns, including Stendal, Tangermünde and Salzwedel. A promobil article highlights the area's historical charm and lists recommended pitches for motorhomes.

On Sunday afternoon, the driver of a rig with a burning caravan drove along the A 45 towards Dortmund. The couple from Gütersloh was returning from vacation. Shortly after the Haiger-Burbach junction, other motorists alerted the driver to heavy smoke coming from the rear of the caravan. Due to a construction zone, stopping was impossible, so he continued to the Wilnsdorf exit. Fire departments from Wilnsdorf and Wilden met the rig at the 'Am Elkersberg' parking area, uncoupled the caravan, and extinguished the fire. The interior was completely destroyed. According to police, the fire was likely caused by a defect in an electrical appliance.
