At Peterlee Magistrates' Court on 10 June 2026, Ellen Louise Ross of Ferryhill Station was convicted in absentia for abandoning a caravan on land at Mills Buildings, Ferryhill, County Durham, around 16 October 2025, breaching the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978. The total penalty is £746 (fine £440, victim surcharge £176, costs £130). The case was brought by Durham County Council.
In a separate case, 41-year-old Diane Ferreira of Marcham, Oxfordshire, was fined £220 and ordered to pay £1,081 in costs for refusing to remove a caravan from a road. The local council issued repeated warnings and fines, but the caravan remained, prompting neighbour complaints. Ferreira did not appear in court.
A third case involves Sarah Challinor, 42, found guilty of causing £3,247.13 damage at Helyg Fach Caravan Park in Aberporth on 27 October 2024. At Aberystwyth Court on 21 May 2026, she was fined £80, ordered to pay £500 compensation, £650 costs, and a £32 victim surcharge.
