Timeline
On 7 October 2026, around 15:40–16:00, a heavy camper with Swedish plates caught fire on the A75 motorway in the Cantal department, near Vieillespesse. The incident occurred near road marker PR 82, with the vehicle travelling in a north-south direction.
Response and impact
Eleven firefighters from Saint-Flour and Massiac attended and extinguished the fire. Traffic was diverted via the RD9 and the Saint-Poncy interchange, causing slowdowns until 18:00; the motorway was reopened on one lane only. No injuries were reported.
Insurance implications
A publication explains that under a third-party policy, no reimbursement for the destroyed camper is provided, while under comprehensive coverage, payment is limited to the actual value at the time of the incident minus the deductible.
