On June 17, 2026, a motorhome caught fire on the A75 motorway in the Hérault department. According to reports, the incident occurred around 16:00 near the Pas-de-l'Escalette (Escalette) tunnel, with the vehicle heading towards Millau (or south-to-north, towards Montpellier–Millau, depending on the source). The driver pulled over and was not injured.
The fire completely destroyed the motorhome and spread to dry vegetation on the cliffs above the road, climbing the hillside and plateau. About three hectares burned. Due to dry weather and wind, firefighters struggled to control the blaze. Around 30 firefighters, two Canadair aircraft, and a water-bomber plane were deployed.
Traffic on the A75 was closed in both directions, causing jams. By 16:30, south-to-north traffic had resumed. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
