Incident
On 8 October 2026 around 13:00 in the municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa on the Siena–Florence motorway, at the San Casciano Ovest service area, a camper was overturned by a tornado. The alert came in at 12:55.
Aftermath
Firefighters extracted two people from the vehicle and handed them to medics for examination; according to preliminary information, they did not suffer serious injuries. The vehicle was put back on its wheels. Strong wind damaged the lower part of the fuel station canopy; firefighters cordoned off and secured the area.
Other damage from the weather
The same day in Terricciola a second tornado tore the roof off a Conad logistics warehouse: the building and equipment were damaged, no one was injured. An orange weather warning is in effect in the region until 17:00 on 8 October, with a yellow warning also issued over the risk of river levels rising.
