On May 21, on the A1 motorway (Milan–Naples) near Arezzo, between Valdarno and Arezzo, in the southbound direction, two trucks and a camper collided. The accident occurred around 16:15–16:30 at kilometre 352. The camper was crushed between the two trucks, with its front section deformed.
Three people were injured: a 70-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman from the camper, and a 33-year-old truck driver. All were taken to San Donato hospital in Arezzo with code 2 (moderate severity). One of the trucks was carrying a tanker of styrene — a flammable monomer — but no leak occurred.
Firefighters, ambulances, police and Autostrade services were on site. A queue of 6 to 10 km formed (according to different sources), traffic was disrupted, and alternative routes were recommended. By evening, traffic had been restored.
