In Brief

On May 21, a camper van was caught between two trucks on the A1 highway in Tuscany. Three people were injured; one truck carried styrene, but no leak occurred. A traffic jam of up to 10 km formed.

On the afternoon of May 21, 2026, on the A1 Milan-Naples highway, between the Valdarno and Arezzo exits in the direction of Rome, a collision involving two trucks and a camper van occurred. The accident happened at kilometer 352 in the province of Arezzo.

According to sources, three people were injured: a 70-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman who were in the camper van, and a 33-year-old driver of one of the trucks. All were taken to the San Donato hospital in Arezzo with a yellow code. One of the trucks was carrying styrene (a flammable monomer), but no leak of the hazardous substance occurred.

Firefighters, ambulances, and police were on site. The accident caused a traffic jam of between 6 and 10 km, according to different reports. Traffic was disrupted; drivers were advised to use alternative routes: for long journeys, exit at Florence Impruneta, take the Siena-Bettolle SS326 road, and rejoin the highway at Valdichiana; for short trips, exit at Valdarno, take the SR69, and return to Arezzo. Traffic was gradually being restored by evening.

Trentino: Green Road dell'Acqua by bike and motorhome

The Green Road dell'Acqua route in Trentino, winner of the 2021 Italian Green Road Award, is a 140 km cycling loop. It runs from the Adige River to Lake Garda, along the Sarca River and through the Valle dei Laghi, ending with a climb on Monte Bondone. The route is mostly flat and suitable for all levels, partially overlapping with the Valle dell'Adige cycle path. For motorhome travel, options involve returning to the parking area after each stage, as no direct train or bus connection is available.
