A motorhome overturned shortly after 11:00 on Saturday at the 155.5 kilometre mark of the Athens to Lamia motorway, near the Livanates junction, in the direction of Lamia. A 59-year-old man was driving. Under unclear circumstances he lost control, the motorhome left its lane and turned over on the carriageway.
The driver, his wife and their 10-year-old daughter were on board. All three got out of the vehicle without serious injury. An ambulance crew attended, but the family did not want to go to hospital because they had no worrying health problems.
Traffic and aftermath
The motorhome came to rest blocking both normal lanes. At first vehicles moved slowly along the hard shoulder, causing long queues. A special crane was needed to remove the motorhome, and the road had to be cleaned. The motorway police, working with the road operator, diverted traffic heading for Lamia onto the Livanates side road as far as the Arkitsa junction, where drivers can rejoin the motorway. The first motorway traffic police department of Fthiotida is investigating the cause of the crash.
