A wave of illegal caravan encampments on sports and public facilities has spread across several French regions. In Talmont-Saint-Hilaire (Vendée), since June 14, 2026, the football field at Stade Ribando has been occupied by groups of travelers. The town hall filed a complaint citing damage to sports facilities and an unauthorized connection to the electricity grid of the Edmond-Bocquier college, which caused equipment failure. The college's damage is estimated at €35,000–40,000.
In Cavaillon (Vaucluse), Mayor Gérard Daudet is demanding the eviction of caravans from the racecourse, which has been illegally occupied for several weeks. He filed a complaint and initiated new court proceedings, concerned about the condition of the lawn and the upcoming Cigales Sound festival. In La Crau (Var), authorities have begun eviction procedures against caravan owners on a plot of land.
Near Toulouse, a group of travelers illegally placed caravans on a football pitch; the mayor launched an eviction procedure, fearing disruption of a local fair. In Knutange (Moselle), caravans occupied the Stade Sainte-Geneviève; the municipality contacted the prefecture. In Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, around 25 caravans set up on a training field on May 24; the town hall appealed to the prefect but does not plan forced eviction before May 31. In Perthes (Seine-et-Marne), about 250 caravans settled in a field on May 17; the mayor is concerned about the strain on the water supply network. One commune near Brive plans to redesign its playground to make it unsuitable for parking.
