On Sunday afternoon, a campervan overturned on the A2 Südautobahn in Austria, between Markt Allhau and the Loipersdorf rest area. The cause was a tyre blowout: the 60-year-old driver from Vienna lost control, the vehicle left the road and tipped onto its left side, blocking two lanes.
Both female passengers got out on their own; no one was injured. The motorway towards Vienna was fully closed for an hour to recover the campervan, causing a traffic jam of about seven kilometres. Around 20 firefighters, the Red Cross, helicopter C16 and motorway police were involved.
Separately, on 20 June 2026, on the same A2 towards Italy, a campervan crashed into the end of a traffic jam: one person was seriously injured and taken to hospital by helicopter C11, several others were hospitalised. The cause of that accident is under investigation.
