Heavy rains and snowmelt caused Lake Tekir (Erciyes, 2200 m) to overflow, flooding caravans, tents and containers parked on its shore. Locals say they have never seen such a water level before.
On the night of May 11–12, 2026, after prolonged rainfall and snowmelt, Lake Tekir in the Erciyes region (Kayseri, Turkey) burst its banks. The water flooded a camping area, submerging dozens of caravans, tents and containers belonging to holidaymakers. Those affected tried to salvage their belongings.
Local residents expressed shock. A 73-year-old man said he had never seen the lake at such a level in his lifetime. Other sources also note that such a rise in water had not been observed before.
