In Quinton, south Birmingham, a group of travellers broke a lock and set up an illegal camp at Highfield Lane park. Footage shows dozens of caravans, trucks and horses on the children's playground and near outdoor gym equipment. The park entrance is blocked, cutting off access to Woodgate Valley nature reserve.
The arrival began on the night of Monday, 5 August, and continued into Tuesday. Local residents fear a repeat of previous problems, when such a camp left faeces, rubbish and nappies behind. Birmingham City Council said it is taking action to clear the land, and West Midlands Police is working with partners to resolve the situation. Local councillor Sam Quinton said padlocks on gates had been cut and expressed concern about a planned household waste collection on Saturday.
