Caravans leave beauty spot car park after council action

More than nine motorhomes and other vehicles have been photographed on Newhaven's West Beach, which has been closed to the public since 2008. The beach was first shut in 2006 due to concerns about the sea wall, briefly reopened in 2007, then closed again in 2008. In June, Sussex Police received reports of padlocks being broken to allow access, and gates were later re-secured. Lewes MP James MacCleary and Newhaven Port & Properties issued a joint appeal against unlawful entry, citing safety risks within the operational harbour.

Knowsley Safari in the UK has launched Safari Sleepover, an overnight camping experience within the park, home to over 500 animals including giraffes, lions, tigers and rhinos.
