On the morning of 9 May 2026, around 11:00, on the N242 (Westerweg) in Herhugowaard, a caravan detached from a passenger car. The trailer flew onto the opposite lane, where no other cars were present, and slid into the water via the roadside. No one was injured. To recover the caravan from the water, part of the N242 was closed.
Later, around 15:30, on the N250 in Den Helder, a car towing a caravan caught fire on the road to the ferry to Texel. The driver and bystanders managed to detach and roll the caravan away from the burning car. No injuries were reported; the car sustained serious damage.
