On the morning of March 14, 2026, a fire occurred at the Markham Meadows Campground in East Hampton, Connecticut, resulting in one person being hospitalized for smoke inhalation. The fire originated in a camper belonging to a campground staff member, with strong winds spreading the flames to a second vehicle. Firefighters battled the blaze, which was complicated by a propane leak and the absence of fire hydrants, using water from a nearby pond.
