In Brief

The nudist area at the campsite in Hooksiel (Lower Saxony) will close after the 2026 season due to low occupancy. The operator plans to convert the site into a modern camping area with mandatory clothing. A petition against the closure has gathered around 1,400 signatures.

Closure after 75 years

The FKK zone at the Hooksiel campsite, the last of its kind on the North Sea, will be closed for the 2027 season. Operator Überland GmbH (also referred to as Überland Services GmbH) cites low profitability: out of 412 pitches, only 125 are occupied by seasonal campers, and short-term bookings are rare.

Operator's plans and reaction

From 2027, the freed area is to be converted into modern seasonal pitches with a summer lounge zone and mandatory clothing. Regular visitors, many of whom have been coming for over 30 years, have collected around 1,400 signatures on a petition (some sources say over 1,300). The Naturistenverband Wilhelmshaven-Friesland (or Naturistenbund Wilhelmshaven Friesland) opposes the closure, but a proposal to reduce the area was rejected. The nearby nudist beach will remain open.

B.C. shuts off utilities at Abbotsford RV camp without notice

Residents at an RV rest stop in Abbotsford, British Columbia, report the province shut off water, power, and waste disposal services without warning. The B.C. Ministry of Transportation cited ongoing public safety complaints and vandalism as reasons, while the city expressed disappointment over the lack of notice. The site, scheduled for permanent closure as part of a highway expansion, was removed from the provincial rest stop inventory in September.

"Many cried": Disbelief after permanent camping debacle

The Karlstein municipal council terminated all 360 permanent plots at the Weißsee lake in Großwelzheim, Bavaria, in August 2025, giving occupants until March 2026 to vacate. The decision, citing a need for 2.4 million euros to address critical safety issues in the aging infrastructure, has sparked protests and the formation of a citizens' initiative. While a similar scenario is not currently anticipated at the Mainflinger Badesee in Hessen, the situation is being closely monitored following a comparable termination in Wörth am Main.
