In Brief

The market sees campers with an isolated garage for a motorcycle, as well as motorcycles with living modules — from trailers to rigid cabins. Both directions offer unique travel solutions.

Campers with a motorcycle garage

Campers with an isolated garage for a motorcycle are appearing on the market, where the bike is stored separately from the living space. Such models are offered by small workshops, not large series manufacturers. Each such vehicle is a unique development.

Motorcycles with living modules

The camper trend has spread to motorcycles. Designs with sleeping trailers have emerged, as well as models with rigid cabins built into the chassis. Some solutions, like a converted Honda Gold Wing, weigh about 500 kg and create handling problems. In Spain, such conversions require a complex official registration procedure.

Finally, someone has designed a camper trailer for electric cars. It was born from a failed idea: a roof box that turned into a house

Wheelhome has launched the Dashaway eCT, an ultralight camper trailer designed specifically for electric vehicles. The trailer weighs 340 kg, offers 3.94 m² of living space with a kitchen and convertible bed, and features a gas-free, all-electric system. Priced at £26,225, it addresses the range and weight concerns that plagued its previous roof-mounted prototype for the Tesla Model 3.

If Homer Simpson had designed a camper car, it would have been like this six-wheeled Cadillac with a coffee maker and TV

In 1978, Swiss designer Franco Sbarro created a mobile office based on a Cadillac Eldorado for Saudi businessman Joseph E. Adjadj. The vehicle, over seven meters long and weighing nearly three tons, featured four large seats, desks, telephones, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, and a TV, but no beds or kitchen. The project remained a single prototype, as it was considered too large, expensive, and ahead of its time for an era without remote work culture.

Sant Antoni police issue 19 fines for overnight stays in motorhomes and caravans

Sant Antoni de Portmany (Ibiza) police inspected 73 vehicles in the first month of an intensified campaign starting late April, including 37 motorhomes, 20 caravans, and 16 vans suitable for sleeping. 19 fines were issued: 15 for camping/overnight stays on rural land and 4 for municipal ordinance violations. Two empty caravans and four camper vans were impounded as abandoned. Fines under Law 5/2024 on vehicle influx control on Ibiza can reach €30,000.

Spain tightens MOT rules for older campervans

Spain's DGT has issued a new instruction clarifying MOT (ITV) intervals for motorhomes and campervans. Motorhomes over 4 years old require inspection every two years, those over 10 years annually. Campervans up to 10 years old need annual checks, while those over 10 years must pass every six months. The update follows a Supreme Court ruling from March 13, 2018, which also allows municipalities to restrict parking times and prohibit overnight stays on urban roads.

Camping for motorhomes with 157 pitches and pool planned on rural land in Elche

The Valencian regional government has opened a public consultation on a project to build a three-star campsite for motorhomes in Elche, in the Valverde Bajo area. The site covers about 19,500 sq m on non-developable land and includes 157 pitches, a swimming pool, bar, children's playground, and wastewater treatment facilities. The documentation will be available for review and objections for 20 working days via the regional digital planning platform.

Motorhome ITV in 2026: what changed and how to avoid fines

Spain has published updated guidelines for motorhome technical inspections (ITV). Inspection frequency depends on weight: motorhomes up to 3,500 kg require inspection every 2 years (from 4 to 10 years old) and annually after 10 years; heavier models are inspected more often. Costs range from €45 to €90 depending on region and fuel type. Special attention is paid to the legality of conversions: solar panels, bike racks, awnings, and additional equipment must be registered in the vehicle's technical documentation.
