An interagency commission found numerous illegally placed tents and caravans in the Pasha Dere area near Varna. The inspection was ordered by regional governor Mario Smarkov and involved police, the Forestry Agency, the environmental inspectorate, the fire service, and Avren municipality; representatives of Varna municipality were absent.
Objects on Avren territory received warnings to be removed by August 23. Owners of tents and caravans on Varna territory face sanctions under the Forestry Act and may also be fined for violating the Black Sea Coast Act and camping regulations. Following a similar inspection in Kara Dere near Byala, about 80% of caravans and tents have already been removed. According to Milen Iliev, chief expert at the regional administration, spontaneous campsites leave behind awnings and garbage that municipalities must clear at their own expense.
