An illegal campsite has been discovered in the sanitary protection zone of the Yovkovtsi reservoir near the village of Shilkovtsi. On several decares of the shoreline, fencing, surveillance cameras, caravans, tents, a stationary barbecue, boats and fishing rods were set up, along with a gravel access road.
The violation was found during a joint inspection by the regional governor, the head of the Yovkovtsi water utility, engineer Rosen Naydenov, and the reservoir manager, engineer Angel Stoyanov. Regional Governor Marin Bogomilov conducted a surprise check after a letter from the mayor of Elena, engineer Dilyan Mlazev. The reservoir's water is the main source of drinking water for many settlements in the Veliko Tarnovo region, making such activities prohibited.
An interagency commission has been formed to fully inspect the reservoir, and materials have been sent to the prosecutor's office.
