A group of Ellsworth, Maine residents living near the proposed 28-site RV campground on Bayside Road is asking the city to pause all new campground developments in rural zones. The neighborhood coalition argues that the proposed Anchor In campground would bring noise, traffic, and environmental concerns.
They plan to present a broader proposal to the city council in mid-August to change zoning rules that currently allow campgrounds in any rural residential zone. The developer, Superior Realty Inc., states that the land is zoned for the proposed use and that neighbors have the right to voice their opinions.
At its August 4 meeting, the Trenton Select Board declined to support the Ellsworth residents' request for a moratorium on new campground applications. The board noted it lacks authority to make official statements without a town meeting, as it is a fiduciary body.
