The Salvar Oyambre platform has criticized a project to build a motorhome parking area on the coast of the Oyambre Natural Park in San Vicente de la Barquera. Activists said the facility would lead to "consented deterioration" and is incompatible with the status of a specially protected natural area, including its status as a Natura 2000 site of Community importance.
According to the platform, the project is being promoted using simplifications under a recent Cantabrian law and has not yet undergone mandatory sectoral approvals (road, environmental, hydrological). Activists believe the amendments to the Administrative Simplification Act prioritize tourism interests over nature protection.
