Since the start of the year, environmental inspectors in Andalusia have issued 98 fines for improper parking of recreational vehicles, including caravans, motorhomes, and campers, in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar natural park. Fines are imposed for overnight parking and camping with a vehicle or tents in unauthorized areas, as well as for waste dumping.
For seven consecutive summers, a special control regime has been in place. Fines are issued when owners ignore inspectors' warnings or when specific damage is recorded, such as damage to vegetation or littering. Authorities run awareness campaigns and patrol beaches.
Last winter, an "organized eviction" of motorhomes from sensitive coastal areas was carried out. This year, cooperation with local police included towing vehicles from prohibited areas and closing parking lots in El Playazo and Isleta del Moro. Offenders are reminded to use designated areas. Camping is also considered to include setting up tables, awnings, or supports that expand the occupied space.
