The uncontrolled growth of caravans and campers on Fuerteventura is causing tensions and environmental damage. A study by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, published in the Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism, analyzed 24 natural beaches on the north coast and found a loss of endemic flora and fauna. Residents report that beaches are overcrowded with vehicles, especially in summer and Easter. The situation mirrors that of the Balearic Islands, where Law 5/2024 on Ibiza has reduced non-resident camper and caravan entries by 75.8% in May-June 2026 compared to the same period in 2024.
