Owning a motorhome in 2026 has become more expensive due to tax changes, but eight compact campers under €50,000 are available, including Bürstner Papillon and Sunlight Cliff 540

The cost of owning a motorhome has risen significantly in 2026. The base price of a new motorhome starts at €50,000, while a semi-integrated model costs around €88,000. Since January 1, 2026, the reduced quarter-rate vehicle tax has been replaced by a half-rate, increasing annual expenses.

Fixed costs (insurance, storage, maintenance) range from €3,000 to €6,000 per year, and total annual costs for a €88,000 semi-integrated model exceed €8,425. For most holidaymakers, renting may be more cost-effective than buying.

No more long-term campers at Waidring campsite

The new operator of the 'Camping Steinplatte' site in Waidring, Tentoria GmbH, is terminating contracts with seasonal campers and shifting focus to short-term tourist stays. Annual agreements expire on September 30, 2026; campers may extend for one final season (€4,900 plus extras) but must vacate by end of October 2027. The local tourism board (TVB) called the move 'understandable' and said the planned upgrades align with current market demand.
