The city council of Rio Grande has approved the creation of a municipal campground for motorhomes, caravans, and similar vehicles. The facility will be equipped with water supply, restrooms, gray and black water disposal, electricity, security, and tourist information. According to one source, a first aid kit and defibrillator are also planned.
Funding will come from a fee for services and accommodation charged to users. The funds will be used for operation and infrastructure improvements. The initiative aims to organize the accommodation of tourists traveling by motor vehicles and increase the length of their stay in the city, as well as develop tourism infrastructure. According to the new source, the project also aims to manage the growing flow of such vehicles in the city.
